  • To promote public awareness and behavioral change towards responsible waste management.
  • To foster partnerships between communities, businesses, and government.

Our Objectives

  • Facilitate discussions on effective waste collection, recycling, and disposal.
  • Encourage innovations in waste-to-energy and recycling industries.
  • Support policies that reduce plastic waste and environmental pollution.
  • Build a culture of environmental responsibility across all communities in Lagos.

Waste Challenges in Lagos (Lengthy Content)

Lagos, with over 20 million residents, generates more than 13,000 metric tonnes of waste daily. Managing this growing volume of waste is a complex challenge.

Key Issues:

  • Overloaded Dumpsites: Many landfills are operating beyond capacity.
  • Plastic Pollution: Lagos waterways are heavily polluted with plastics.
  • Limited Recycling: Only a fraction of waste is recycled.
  • Urban Growth: Rapid population growth puts more pressure on waste infrastructure.

Impact on the City:

  • Health Risks: Poor waste disposal leads to outbreaks of diseases.
  • Flooding: Blocked drainage channels worsen flooding in the rainy season.
  • Climate Change: Methane emissions from unmanaged waste contribute to global warming.

LSWF’s Role in Addressing These Challenges:

By creating a platform where stakeholders collaborate, we are developing practical solutions such as community recycling hubs, waste-to-energy initiatives, and sustainable waste financing models.
